Alan Chen

The Lazy Chartist

Alan is an investment professional with over 25 years of experience and a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University. Alan has served as Chief Investment Officer for a family office in Taiwan. Alan also served as board director of cnYES.com, a leading financial news website in Taiwan. Previously, Alan has also worked at a hedge fund as Executive Director, and at investment banks on Wall Street and in Hong Kong.

Alan’s journey in learning technical analysis is similar to yours—full of rabbit holes, confusions and frustrations. Skeptical of rosy claims of foolproof trading strategies and cherry-picked price charts showing black magic results, Alan sets out to investigate technical analysis’ true performances.

Through back testing of trading patterns and strategies, the truth has set him free. It can set you free too!

As a technical chartist, Alan believes charts and data should do the storytelling. His mission is to share hard-earned insights with fellow beginner traders and quant enthusiasts, paying forward the guidance he received during his own learning curve.
